Ignatieff and crew: Too boring not too Toronto

Word has it that Ignatieff and crew are too 416 heavy. The pundits are wrong. No self respecting urbanite would identify with party that is about as edgy as Mr Rogers. The Liberals are the party of the status quo and their vote for us we are safe and boring mantra appeals to no one.

The Liberals have forgotten their roots. Sure they talk about Lester Pearson, Trudeau, Health care and the Canadian pension plan. However, the party has abandoned the principle of universality and it is hard see this group of insipid accountants introducing anything half as bold as Trudeau's Omnibus bill. If they ever want regain the interest of Canadians, they better give both a hard look.

Pearson was denied his majority by the same francophone vote in QC.

Trudeau was tougher in dealing with QC.

The concentration of power complaints are several months old.

Does Denis need the Garth Turner boot or do you risk more damage from trying to keep him onside?

Ah, yes, because boring is bad - ask Pearson, Mackenzie King, bland Bill Davis (premier of Ontario for 14 years). All considered boring.

You want a rock star perhaps? How about an actor or sports star.

Grow up

Yeah, boring doesn't always have to mean something negative. It depends on the point of view. And really, which politician with no scandals and no extremist opinion is not considered boring?

Pearson might have been considered boring, but his policies were anything but. And really that is what makes political brands.

Then again, maybe I was too quick to judge. The Liberals can still be dressed up to seem edgy. They can sell themselves as the first post policy party and can openenly muse about how everything flows from a set of key pandering principles.
